The trajectory of the virus over the coming months in the lead up to Black Friday is uncertain, and as restrictions ease-up, businesses are having to&nbsp;quickly adapt&nbsp;or rethink their strategies altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, unless you have a claimed psychic ability, how can you plan for the unpredictable? Online biz is booming<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The prediction that eCommerce will continue to boom is ever-present. It is estimated that&nbsp;17.2 million UK consumers (25% of the population)&nbsp;plan to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.retailgazette.co.uk\/blog\/2020\/07\/17-2m-brits-plan-to-switch-to-online-shopping-permanently\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">make permanent changes to the way they shop<\/a>&nbsp;with online retail sales estimated to increase by an additional \u00a34.5bn in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly&nbsp;during lockdown, Brits spent over \u00a340bn to simply&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uk.finance.yahoo.com\/news\/coronavirus-brits-have-spent-over-40-bn-to-lift-their-spirits-in-lockdown-083556954.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lift their spirits<\/a>, with the average UK adult spending \u00a3771 on non-essential items (we quite like the random purchases of a piece of the moon, an inflatable pub, and a Penny Farthing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from novelty, the top three key online&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roirevolution.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/coronavirus-and-ecommerce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purchase drivers<\/a>&nbsp;have been free delivery, availability and price. With cost-efficiency being front-of-mind for this year\u2019s Christmas celebrations, it\u2019s likely that sales and discounts will be a key driving factor behind purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Q4 2020 is set to be a time of opportunity for online retailers. A seasonal peak of all peaks. So the question is, are you prepared for these extremes? In-store shopping\u2019s a farce<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the reopening of doors,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/econsultancy.com\/stats-roundup-coronavirus-impact-on-marketing-advertising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK retail footfall is down<\/a>&nbsp;39% year-on-year. 40% of those who have visited UK stores apparently don\u2019t find the experience as enjoyable as it once was, queuing and following a one-way system is an inconvenience \u2013 so too is not being able to try on clothing. Further insights from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.channeladvisor.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ChannelAdvisor<\/a>&nbsp;study discovered that over a third claimed they had to wait longer to check out at the end of their in-store experiences. (Did we mention convenience is the customer\u2019s friend?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Staying in has cemented itself as the new going out for many, and this combined with those in-store inconveniences means there\u2019s an opportunity for online retailers to capitalise on.
