FAQs
What does a fulfillment center do?
A fulfillment center is a large, warehouse-like building that stores products for a retailer. When the retailer receives an order from a customer, staff in the fulfillment center gather together the products and prepare them for shipping – a process called pick and pack. A courier then collects the order from the fulfillment center and delivers it to the customer.
How do fulfillment centers work?
Fulfillment centers usually work in a number of teams, focused on different tasks. For example, receiving goods in bulk from a supplier; organizing how and where they’re stored; picking and packing orders as they come in; dispatching packed orders to couriers; and receiving returned items and organizing refunds or exchanges.
What do fulfillment centers cost?
Different fulfillment centers have different pricing models, but, in general, the cost of using a fulfillment center will depend on a variety of factors. These include the volume of stock you want to store; the size and weight of your products; how many orders you take; how complex these orders are to pick and pack; and which shipping services you want to use.
