Helping a truffle brand handle a 10x Peak surge to pave the way for future growth
Jordan Jon and his co-founder, Rikki Constantinou, set up Truffle Guys in 2019 after years of working in restaurants and hospitality, where they’d both helped bring truffle onto menus during the ingredient’s 2012 social media boom.
What frustrated them was an industry dominated by Italian and French brands with no interest in branding or educating customers, an industry built for Michelin-star kitchens rather than home cooks.
Truffle Guys set out to do the opposite: build a brand people trusted, using truffle sourced from Italy, but packaged for scrambled eggs, fries, and burgers rather than tasting menus. Truffle dust, truffle mayo and truffle oil replaced the fresh truffle that spoils within a week of being cut.
The brand grew fast, first direct-to-consumer through the pandemic’s home-cooking boom, then into food service partnerships with restaurants like Honest Burger, then into retail listings with Ocado, Harrods and John Lewis.
That growth – while a fantastic success story – is exactly what exposed the cracks in their old fulfilment setup.
Why J&J Global Fulfilment?
Truffle Guys had been with another 3PL for three or four years. It worked at first, but as the business scaled, pricing stayed flat while service levels dropped. Pick-and-pack errors meant packages went out missing items, on a scale that couldn’t continue once Truffle Guys was supplying retailers like John Lewis and Harrods directly.
Get fulfilment wrong with an account like that and there’s no second chance; you get delisted. With an ambition to grow and unwilling to be bottlenecked by their fulfilment partner, Truffle Guys began searching for a new 3PL provider ahead of Peak 2025.
A partner who doesn’t disappear
The switch came through a referral from another business that had made a similar move and vouched for J&J. What stood out from the first conversations wasn’t the sales pitch, but a point of contact who, even years into the partnership, has stuck around. Jordan still messages Kyren, who led the initial relationship, with questions even now.
Clarity on cost
Truffle Guys’ old supplier wrapped everything into a single per-package rate. J&J broke costs down clearly by service, which meant Jordan could see line-by-line what he was paying for, rather than discovering charges after the fact.
Same-day and next-day SLA commitments across dispatch and Goods In were also a step up from what they’d had before.
Onboarding without disruption
Truffle Guys ran down stock at their old supplier while feeding new deliveries into J&J, then made the full switch in March, outside their peak trading period.
Onboarding took just two weeks, and that included a comprehensive onboarding programme with a dedicated Onboarding Specialist, covering platform training, process induction, and test orders before going live.
